Baptist Health has announced the completion of a key construction milestone for the Al and Jane Nahmad Women’s Cancer Center, marking the end of exterior work on the 155,000-square-foot facility. The new center is being built on the campus of Baptist Health Baptist Hospital and will serve as a dedicated destination for women’s cancer care in South Florida.

The “topping out” ceremony comes one year after the project’s groundbreaking. Once finished, the center will be part of Miami Cancer Institute, which serves as Baptist Health Cancer Care’s main location. According to Baptist Health, women make up 65 percent of patients at Miami Cancer Institute.

The building is scheduled to open in early 2027. Funding for its construction includes significant contributions from donors to the Baptist Health Foundation, notably a major gift from Al and Jane Nahmad. “We are very pleased to see the Women’s Cancer Center become a reality and to be a part of such an innovative, state-of-the-art resource for women’s healthcare in South Florida,” said Mr. Nahmad.

Michael Zinner, M.D., CEO and executive medical director of Miami Cancer Institute, developed the vision for the center with an emphasis on comprehensive, patient-focused care for women with cancer.

Leonard Kalman, M.D., Chief Medical Executive of Baptist Health Cancer Care stated: “This event marks not only a significant construction milestone, but also tangible progress toward a future where women with cancer can receive compassionate and cutting-edge care, all under one roof. Inspired by the remarkable generosity of the Nahmad family, the new Women’s Cancer Center will raise the bar for women’s cancer treatment and clinical research in a ‘woman-centric,’ healing environment.”

The facility will bring together breast and gynecologic cancer specialists in centralized clinics and offer on-site infusion therapy suites designed for comfort. Patients will also have access to fertility preservation services as part of their treatment planning as well as opportunities to participate in clinical trials and receive precision medicine targeted at women’s cancers.

The four-story center will be located within the Brian and Susan Keeley Pavilion. Its design was led by Arcadis (formerly CRTKL), with NV2A serving as general contractor.

Baptist Health operates 12 hospitals and more than 200 outpatient facilities across South Florida. The organization employs over 28,000 people and works with 4,000 physicians throughout Miami-Dade, Monroe, Broward, and Palm Beach counties.
