Board-certified noninvasive cardiologist Pedro Covas, M.D., has joined Baptist Health Heart & Vascular Care at the Baptist Health Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute. Dr. Covas specializes in echocardiography and cardiac computed tomography (CT) to support structural heart procedures. His clinical interests also include valvular heart disease, cardiac CT for coronary artery disease evaluation, and the application of artificial intelligence in cardiovascular imaging. He holds certifications in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, echocardiography, and cardiovascular computed tomography.
Before joining Baptist Health, Dr. Covas served as an assistant professor of clinical medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and was director of structural imaging at the University of Miami Health System.

Dr. Covas received his medical degree from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia. He completed both his internal medicine residency and general cardiology fellowship at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where he was chief cardiology fellow during his final year. Additionally, he finished a cardiac imaging fellowship at Baylor Scott & White – The Heart Hospital Plano in Texas.
He is a member of the American Society of Echocardiography and the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography. Dr. Covas has contributed articles on cardiac imaging to medical journals and has presented his work at scientific symposiums.
Dr. Covas emphasizes a patient-centered approach to care: “Medical decisions are best made by combining clinical research with professional expertise and the individual patient’s values,” he said.
