The U.S. Census Bureau will begin an embargo for the 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates on September 9, 2025, at 10 a.m. Eastern Time. The public release of these statistics is scheduled for September 11.
The ACS collects and reports data on various aspects of the population and housing in the United States, including language use, education levels, commuting patterns, employment status, mortgage and rent information, income levels, poverty rates, and health insurance coverage. According to the Census Bureau, “It is the only source of local estimates for most of the 40-plus topics it covers.”
Subscribers to the embargo will be able to access one-year statistics for all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, all congressional districts and metropolitan statistical areas, as well as other geographic regions with populations of at least 65,000 people starting September 9 at 10 a.m. ET.
The embargo period will last until Thursday, September 11 at 12:01 a.m. ET. During this time, wire services and distribution outlets are not allowed to share news stories or data files before the official public release date and time. The Census Bureau’s embargo policy provides more details about these restrictions.
Once released publicly on September 11 by 10 a.m. ET, all related data products—including those available through data.census.gov, APIs, summary files and other tools—will be accessible to everyone.
