The U.S. Census Bureau has released updated Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (TIGER)/Line files for 2025, available in Shapefile, Geodatabase, and GeoPackage formats. These files enable users to create custom maps using various data sources.
The new release includes Current Suffixed Blocks Geodatabases and GeoPackages. These products feature both 2020 and current block information, with suffixes identifying blocks that have been split since 2020. Users can link these geospatial datasets to the Census Bureau’s current address count listing files.
Geospatial data provided by the Census Bureau include boundaries of legal, administrative, and statistical areas as well as features like roads and hydrography. The geographic boundary data are designed to be compatible with upcoming demographic releases for 2025 on data.census.gov, which will allow mapping of census tabular data.
While TIGER/Line files do not contain demographic statistics themselves, they include geographic entity codes (GEOIDs) that facilitate linkage with the Census Bureau’s demographic datasets. For guidance on selecting appropriate products, users are directed to consult the TIGER Data Products Guide page.
