Sergio Pino’s widow, Tatiana Pino, and their daughters have filed a lawsuit in Miami-Dade Circuit Court against Nancy Pastor, Sergio Pino’s longtime girlfriend, and others. The suit alleges that fraudulent transfers of Century Midtown assets occurred before and after Sergio Pino’s death in July 2024.
Sergio Pino was the founder of Coral Gables-based Century Homebuilders Group, a major Hispanic-owned homebuilder in the United States. He died by suicide as FBI agents were preparing to raid his home and arrest him on charges related to an alleged plot to kill his wife through poisoning and hiring hitmen. At the time of his death, he and Tatiana were going through a contentious divorce.
The complaint centers on trust and lease documents involving Century Midtown in Doral. According to court filings, these documents were created or amended by attorney Eugenio Duarte in March and July 2024. The plaintiffs allege these actions aimed to benefit Pastor without the knowledge or consent of key parties including Tatiana Pino or financial institutions involved with the property.
“In July 2024 as Sergio Pino’s multi-year efforts to kill Tatiana, his joint partner/owner by the entireties of CHG, failed, and with the FBI and the police closing in, certain documents related to the collateralized clubhouse were purportedly executed by Sergio without the consent of the bank, his project partners, Tatiana, or those he sought to transfer control to all of his interests in Century Fitness and the Clubhouse, among other things,” according to statements from the complaint.
The disputed documents include a 99-year lease for a clubhouse at Century Midtown and two trusts. Tatiana Pino now leads Century Homebuilders as president following her husband’s death.
“These efforts were criminal, fraudulent, intentional and otherwise wrongful,” states the lawsuit.
Pastor’s attorney Michael Schlesinger responded: “successful efforts in the sales and management of Sergio Pino projects led to Mr. Pino and his companies profiting by millions” and that she was put in management positions because of her experience. He also stated: “To set the record straight, for over the past decade that Ms. Pastor was affiliated with Mr. Pino’s businesses and ventures, she never witnessed Ms. [Tatiana] Pino involved in any business transaction until she took over after his untimely death,” adding that “Ms. Pastor has never done anything illegal and has always been ethical and transparent in all Estate matters.”
According to allegations from Tatiana Pino’s legal team, metadata shows one trust document dated March 11 was actually created two days later—coinciding with when Sergio allegedly learned federal authorities were investigating him regarding an attempted murder plot against Tatiana.
Another trust was dated July 15—one day before Sergio’s death.
Duarte expressed concerns about these transactions via email: “Each transfer, assignment, appointment, etc., can potentially alter the relationship with third parties (or even require the consent of third parties) and we have to be careful not to make any decisions in haste without considering all the possible consequences with Century’s relationship with others… I do not want to question any decisions but I am concerned that some of these changes are not needed… they may bring detrimental consequences.”
Ownership issues surrounding three parcels at 2038, 8075, and 8175 Northwest 107th Avenue are complicating potential sales or refinancing efforts for Century Town Center according to court filings. CBRE was hired for this process but has reportedly been unable to secure refinancing because lenders found existing partners unacceptable as guarantors; this could require selling or recapitalizing with new partners.
