Board-certified oral medicine specialist David Ojeda, DDS, has joined Baptist Health Cancer Care. In his new role, Dr. Ojeda will diagnose and manage diseases and disorders of the mouth, jaws, and salivary glands. He will also treat orofacial pain conditions such as temporomandibular joint disorders and neuropathic pain in the head and neck. Working with the cancer care team, Dr. Ojeda will coordinate dental care for patients with complex medical conditions like cancer to ensure their oral health is addressed as part of their overall treatment.

Dr. Ojeda was previously an associate clinical professor at UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry and worked in the Department of Hospital Dentistry at University Health System, balancing teaching responsibilities with patient care and clinical research.

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Ojeda to our highly skilled team of cancer care specialists, dedicated to providing the highest quality care,” said Leonard Kalman, M.D., executive deputy medical director and chief medical officer at Miami Cancer Institute.

Dr. Ojeda completed his doctor in dental surgery degree at Santa Maria University in Caracas, Venezuela; an oral medicine residency at the University of Pennsylvania; an advanced education program in oral medicine and orofacial pain at New York University; and an oral pathology and surgery residency at Xaverian University in Bogota, Colombia.

He is a member of the American Academy of Oral Medicine and a diplomate of the American Board of Oral Medicine. He actively contributes to scientific discussions and publications within his field.

Dr. Ojeda described his approach to patient care: “I take time to educate my patients about their diagnosis and treatment options, so they feel empowered to take an active role in their care,” he said. “I strive to combine sound clinical judgment with genuine care.”

Fluent in English and Spanish, Dr. Ojeda will see patients at Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute locations in Miami (8900 North Kendall Drive), Plantation (1228 S. Pine Island Road), as well as Lynn Cancer Institute in Boca Raton (701 NW 13 Street).

Baptist Health is recognized as the largest healthcare organization in its region with 12 hospitals, over 28,000 employees, 4,000 physicians, and more than 200 outpatient centers across South Florida counties including Miami-Dade, Monroe, Broward, and Palm Beach. The system includes institutes specializing in cancer care among other specialties.
