Duke Energy appoints Jeffrey Guldner to board amid industry growth

Duke Energy has announced that Jeffrey Guldner will join its board of directors starting September 15. Guldner will also serve on the Compensation and People Development Committee and the Finance and Risk Management Committee.

Ted Craver, independent chair of the Duke Energy board of directors, added, “From his distinguished career at Pinnacle West Capital Corporation and its primary subsidiary, Arizona Public Service Company (APS), Jeff has led through pivotal moments of execution and transformation. His prior experience provides a unique lens that will strengthen the board with distinct perspectives and help drive constructive outcomes for Duke Energy, its employees, customers and shareholders.”

Guldner retired from his role as chairman of the board, president, and CEO at Pinnacle West Capital Corporation and APS on March 31, 2025. He continues to serve in an advisory capacity at Pinnacle West until March 2026.

During his tenure as CEO at APS, Arizona experienced significant economic growth. Guldner was credited with helping APS meet high energy demands while maintaining service reliability and affordability for customers. He is recognized for prioritizing respect toward both customers and employees.

Guldner currently serves on the boards of the Smart Electric Power Alliance and the McCain Institute. Before joining APS, he worked as a partner specializing in public utility law at Snell & Wilmer LLP in Phoenix. His earlier career includes service as a surface warfare officer in the United States Navy and as an assistant professor at the University of Washington. He holds degrees from the University of Iowa and Arizona State University College of Law.

Duke Energy is based in Charlotte, North Carolina. It serves millions of electric utility customers across several states including Florida through major investments in grid upgrades and cleaner generation sources such as natural gas, nuclear power, renewables, and storage technologies.
