In recognition of Veterans Day, the Duke Energy Foundation has announced nearly $50,000 in grants to support 10 organizations across Indiana that assist veterans and their families. The grants will fund programs focused on transitional housing, mental health services, and basic needs for veterans throughout the state.
“Veterans embody service, leadership and commitment – qualities that strengthen our communities every day,” said Stan Pinegar, president of Duke Energy Indiana. “These grants are a token of our appreciation and a way to help local partners deliver the housing, counseling and basic needs that veterans and their families deserve.”
The recipients include:
– Family Service Association of Howard County will use $3,250 to revitalize the Peace Garden at Jackson Street Commons in Kokomo.
– Huntington County Government is receiving $2,250 for emergency financial assistance to veterans.
– Irreverent Warriors in Knox County will get $5,500 for mental health initiatives through peer connection and wellness retreats.
– Kaiser Home Support Services in Floyd County is awarded $5,500 for Liberty Place, which supports veterans transitioning to civilian life.
– Lafayette Transitional Housing Center receives $5,500 to assist homeless or at-risk veterans.
– People and Animal Learning Services in Monroe County gets $5,500 for its VETS program involving experiential education with horses.
– Sons of the American Legion Post 77 in Franklin County will use $5,000 to construct a memorial monument in Brookville.
– United Way of the Wabash Valley is granted $5,500 to expand a Vietnam exhibit at the Veterans Memorial Museum of Terre Haute.
– Upstream Prevention in Johnson County receives $5,500 for suicide prevention resources tailored to military-connected residents.
– Veterans Support Network in Hamilton County is awarded $5,500 for rental assistance as well as food and repair support.
The Duke Energy Foundation provides more than $30 million annually from shareholder funds to support communities where its customers live and work. Duke Energy Indiana serves about 920,000 customers with approximately 6,300 megawatts of owned electric capacity across a 23,000-square-mile area.
