Duke Energy, along with its partners and customers, has provided more than $6.4 million in energy assistance this year through the Share the Light Fund. The initiative aims to help families keep their homes warm and powered during the colder months.

Over one-third of this funding came from the Duke Energy Foundation, which included an extra $400,000 invested over the summer to assist families during periods of extreme heat. Since 2022, contributions to local nonprofit partners have totaled more than $11 million.

Loree Elswick, president of Duke Energy Foundation, said: “Behind every request for help is a story—a family, a friend, a community member working to get through a tough time. Through Share the Light Fund and our local partners, we’re able to support our neighbors in their moment of need.”

Shelly Biby, Chief Advancement Officer of Crisis Assistance Ministry, stated: “Supporting families through winter starts with partnership, and Duke Energy’s Share the Light Fund empowers Crisis Assistance Ministry to reach households swiftly with the help they need. It’s how our community comes together to help keep homes safe, warm and connected.”

Customers who require assistance can use Duke Energy’s Payment Assistance Finder tool to locate local agencies that offer support. Those interested in contributing can make either recurring or one-time donations to the Share the Light Fund.

Duke Energy serves 8.6 million electric utility customers across six states and operates 55,100 megawatts of energy capacity. Its natural gas utilities provide service for 1.7 million customers in five states. The company continues investing in grid upgrades and cleaner energy generation as part of its ongoing transition toward a smarter energy future.
