Florida International University (FIU) has been ranked No. 46 among public universities in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings, released today. The university also improved its overall national ranking to No. 97.
FIU continues to stand out in key areas, including holding the top spot nationally for social mobility and being ranked No. 2 among public universities for international business, which is third overall in the country.
Other notable placements for FIU among public universities include No. 11 for best value, No. 16 for innovation, and No. 45 for veterans.
“FIU is on a clear path to becoming a Top 30 public university by 2030,” said FIU President Jeanette M. Nuñez. “We continue to lead in academics, research, student success, and upward economic mobility.”
The U.S. News rankings are widely regarded as a standard measure of higher education performance and serve as a reference point for students and families evaluating where to pursue higher education.
Recent recognition for FIU includes being ranked first in Florida for three consecutive years in performance-based funding metrics that assess student success; Washington Monthly placed FIU at No. 8 nationally; Niche listed FIU as No. 21 among Top Public Universities (No. 70 nationally); and Washington Monthly named it the top “Best Bang for the Buck” institution in the Southeast region.
Additionally, FIU is one of only 21 institutions nationwide with both the Carnegie R1 designation—indicating very high research activity—and the Opportunity Colleges & Universities designation.
The university’s progress in national rankings has been attributed to improvements in graduation and retention rates, gains among first-generation and Pell Grant students, and increased research output.
