As the fall semester begins, Florida International University (FIU) welcomes new students to campus with a variety of resources and events designed to support their transition into university life.
The university is encouraging students to utilize the FIU Mobile App, which allows them to access class schedules, register for courses, find campus events, navigate parking, and check dining options. The app also connects with the MyFIU portal where students can contact advisors, view academic calendars, and manage payments.
Students are reminded to complete required online training modules on topics such as career readiness and hazing prevention through their MyFIU accounts. These non-credit modules must typically be finished within the first semester to avoid registration holds in future terms.
Key academic dates and deadlines are available both online and through the mobile app. Students are advised to regularly review these timelines for information on dropping courses, grade postings, and tuition due dates. The “To-Do List” feature in MyFIU helps track outstanding documents or requirements related to enrollment and financial services.
Guidance is available through personalized success teams accessible via the Panther Success Network in MyFIU. Here, students can connect with assigned advisors, schedule appointments, and find additional resources for degree planning.
This week marks FIU’s Week of Welcome through August 30, featuring events across both campuses. A highlight is Panthers’ F1RST NIGHT at Pitbull Stadium—a welcome ceremony led by FIU’s president and other leaders followed by a concert and fireworks for all students.
Athletics play a role in student engagement this semester as well. The football team opens its season under new head coach Willie Simmons on August 29 at Pitbull Stadium. Students can enter games using their One Card and bring a guest with a free companion ticket from the box office. Pre-game festivities take place near Tamiami Hall promenade. Other upcoming athletic events include women’s soccer matches on August 28 and 31—student entry is free with an ID card—and FIU’s inaugural Pig Roast Competition before a rivalry game against FAU.
Campus involvement opportunities are promoted through Panther Connect in MyFIU, offering information about hundreds of student-run clubs covering academic, social, and professional interests. Greek Life provides leadership development opportunities along with networking potential for internships or job searches via alumni connections.
The Center for Leadership and Service offers both online learning experiences and hands-on service projects aimed at developing communication skills as well as organizational abilities that benefit personal growth.
Student Health and Wellness services are included in fees paid by students; offerings range from physical exams to therapy sessions (both online and in-person), nutrition consultations, fitness classes like dance or spinning at the Wellness & Recreation Centers located at MMC (Modesto Maidique Campus) and BBC (Biscayne Bay Campus), plus spaces designated for recreational sports—all accessible with a valid student ID card.
Students are also encouraged to explore additional university resources such as micro-credential programs, critical skills badges, tutoring services, as well as support offered by individual colleges or schools within FIU.
“There’s no better time to be a Panther. What will you do?”
