The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) will start a hearing on August 11 to review Florida Power & Light Company’s (FPL) request for a base rate increase. The hearing, held at the Betty Easley Conference Center in Tallahassee, will allow FPL and other parties involved in the case to present sworn testimony and evidence.
FPL submitted its petition for the rate hike to the PSC on February 28. Prior to this formal hearing, the commission conducted nine service hearings in May and June—two virtual and seven in person—to collect input from customers about FPL’s service quality and proposed rate changes. FPL serves six million retail customers across Northwest and peninsular Florida.
The hearing is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time in Room 148 of the conference center. Additional dates have been reserved from August 12–15 and August 18–22 if more time is needed, with daily session times announced at each day’s conclusion.
A live broadcast of the proceedings will be available on the PSC’s website by selecting “Watch Live and Archived PSC Events” on their homepage. The hearing may also air on the Florida Channel depending on local listings.
