The Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) is urging residents to consider their energy use as part of National Energy Awareness Month this October. The FPSC highlights the importance of saving energy, noting that it also results in cost savings for consumers.
“Energy Awareness Month highlights the power of making smart energy choices,” said FPSC Chairman Mike La Rosa. “When consumers take simple steps to conserve energy, they not only lower their monthly utility bills but also gain more control over their household costs.”
Data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration shows that Florida ranks as the second-largest electricity producer in the United States, just behind Texas. The residential sector accounts for a large portion of this usage, with households responsible for 54% of Florida’s electricity consumption in 2023. This represents the highest residential share among all states and is largely attributed to widespread use of air conditioning and electric heating.
The FPSC encourages residents to treat Energy Awareness Month as an opportunity to adopt long-term habits for efficient energy use, emphasizing that these actions can lead to lower utility bills and help ensure a stable energy future across the state.
