The South Florida Progress Foundation has announced it will now operate under the name Greater Miami Chamber Foundation. The change aims to better represent its role as the philanthropic and community impact arm of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.

The foundation, which remains a separate legal entity from the Chamber, focuses on advancing research, programs, and initiatives designed to strengthen Miami’s business environment and support regional growth. Its stated mission includes fostering community collaboration, leadership development, and innovative solutions for challenges facing Greater Miami. The organization’s vision is to help build a thriving, inclusive, and globally competitive community.

Alfred Sanchez, President & CEO of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, said: “The decision to rename the South Florida Progress Foundation to the Greater Miami Chamber Foundation reflects our commitment to ensuring the Foundation’s identity is closely aligned with its purpose.” Lucy Nuñez, Board Chair of the Greater Miami Chamber Foundation and Senior Vice President at Pacific National Bank, added: “The new name conveys both the strength of its partnership with the Chamber and its independent role in shaping the future of our community through research, leadership, and philanthropy.”

As a nonprofit 501(c)(3), the foundation uses charitable contributions to fund initiatives that benefit Greater Miami. It positions itself as a driver for civic engagement, leadership cultivation, and economic advancement in the region.

The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce represents over 400,000 employees across member companies. Founded in 1907 as the Miami Board of Trade, it advocates for business interests at federal, state, and local levels. Its advocacy efforts focus on education and workforce development, resilience planning for businesses and communities against various risks (such as climate events), transportation improvements including public transit expansion projects (https://www.miamidade.gov/global/transportation/home.page), and workforce housing solutions addressing affordability challenges (https://miamichamber.com/workforce-housing-committee).

The foundation supports organizations whose work aligns with these priorities by providing financial backing aimed at long-term prosperity for businesses and residents in Greater Miami.
