The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has issued a statement recognizing the contributions of military veterans in both the United States and Canada. The message, delivered on Veterans Day in the U.S. and Remembrance Day in Canada, highlights the organization’s gratitude toward those who have served.

“We owe a profound debt of gratitude to the women and men who have been on the front lines defending our freedom, protecting our democracy, and the ideals that unite us. Their bravery, sacrifice, and commitment to service represent the best of all of us,” said Brian Bryant, International President of IAM.

Bryant noted that many veterans bring their leadership skills back to civilian life by working for better conditions for families after returning home. “The same dedication that drives our veterans to defend our nation is what motivates them to build a better future for working families when they return home. Their leadership, discipline, and sense of unity strengthen our union and inspire everyone to continue fighting for dignity, justice, and respect at work.”

This year marks a milestone for IAM as its Veterans Services Program was officially recognized by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) as a National Veterans Service Organization (VSO). According to Bryant, “This historic designation highlights our union’s commitment to supporting those who have served in the armed forces. It ensures that IAM military veterans and their families now have direct access to essential benefits, trusted representation, and a steadfast advocate helping them navigate the system they have honorably earned.”

“To all IAM veterans and every veteran: Thank you!” Bryant added.

He concluded by stating: “Your courage and service remind us what true solidarity looks like. We may never be able to fully repay the sacrifice you have made, but we can—and must—honor it: by supporting each other, fighting for peace and equity, and ensuring every veteran and their family receive the care, opportunities, and respect they deserve.”

The recognition from the VA means that IAM can now directly assist its members who are veterans with accessing federal benefits.

In closing his remarks on behalf of IAM’s Executive Council, Bryant emphasized ongoing support: “In solidarity and gratitude – today and always.”
