George Arango, a 2015 graduate of Florida International University (FIU), has built a successful career as a content creator under the name Mr. Eats305. Known for his social media presence focused on Miami’s food and lifestyle, Arango reaches an average of five million viewers each month on Instagram and has nearly half a million followers across all platforms.
Arango collaborates with well-known brands such as McDonald’s, Disney, American Express, and DoorDash. Most of these companies approached him directly to feature their products to his audience as part of their marketing efforts.
Discussing his work, Arango said, “Every day is different, but it’s still the same in the sense of storytelling and marketing. Actually, the storytelling is as traditional as it gets. You’re telling a story just like in a newspaper or on the radio. The only difference is that Instagram is the place I share that story.”
He added that being a content creator requires self-discipline and technical skills such as video editing and music selection. “You make your own schedules and create campaigns for yourself. You also have to have enough knowledge in video editing and music. Like everything, being a content creator is not all rainbows and butterflies. It’s not for everyone. Luckily, I always say I’m built for it. I don’t have a creative block, and I don’t get burnt out.”
Arango emphasized authenticity: “Success as a content creator is built on trust. You gain that trust from your audience through your authenticity.” He advised aspiring creators to focus on their message rather than metrics: “I do find the reward in creating the content and staying true to myself. I don’t get drowned up in the likes, clicks and analytics.”
On why he highlights Miami’s cuisine and culture, Arango said: “I’m a Miami guy through and through. The best part about what I do is being able to connect mom and pop restaurants with real people and build community doing that.” He further explained his process for curating lists such as top pizza or burger spots: “Each story takes me about three or four months of digging and researching. I’m trying 40 or 50 spots to make sure that I’m adamant that the Top 10 I’m listing really are my Top 10.”
Reflecting on his time at FIU, Arango credited the university with helping him discover himself both personally and professionally: “FIU gave me an understanding of who I am individually and professionally.” While he initially pursued law after studying political science at FIU—eventually earning his degree from Nova Southeastern University—his passion shifted toward sharing local dining experiences online with his wife Alexandra Brown.
What began as sharing personal dining memories evolved into guiding locals and tourists alike toward notable food spots around Miami.
Arango will soon host an event during the South Beach Wine & Food Festival called Eats & Beats at Zey Zey in Little Haiti-Little River on Saturday, February 21 at 4 p.m., combining his backgrounds in DJ-ing and food curation. He noted: “People can buy tickets on the SOBEWFF website. It’s a good value, and proceeds ultimately go back to the FIU hospitality school.”
