Greater Miami and Miami Beach will host four FIFA World Cup 2026 group stage matches at Miami Stadium (Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens), as part of a total of seven tournament games scheduled for the region, including matches through the quarterfinals and the Bronze Final. FIFA recently announced the national teams that will compete in these opening round contests.
The teams playing group stage matches in Miami include Portugal, Colombia, Scotland, Saudi Arabia, Uruguay, and Cabo Verde. Portugal returns for its seventh consecutive World Cup appearance with Cristiano Ronaldo leading the squad as the all-time top scorer in World Cup qualifying and the first player to score in five World Cups. Colombia makes its return after missing the last edition, following a strong qualification campaign. Scotland qualifies for its first World Cup since 1998 after a dramatic finish in their qualifiers. Saudi Arabia continues its run of appearances after qualifying at the top of its AFC group. Uruguay brings experience as a two-time champion with recent deep tournament runs, while Cabo Verde enters on the back of topping its CAF qualifying group.
David Whitaker, President & CEO of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB), commented on the announcement: “Greater Miami and Miami Beach is where the world comes together, and hosting seven total World Cup matches—including these thrilling Group Stage contests—is a profound honor,” said Whitaker. “As fans from four continents travel to experience the FIFA World Cup 26, we look forward to showcasing Miami’s vibrant culture, diverse neighborhoods, award-winning dining, spectacular beaches, and our unmatched passion for global sporting events.”
The selection reflects Greater Miami’s multicultural identity and reputation as an international destination capable of welcoming visitors from regions such as Europe, South America, Africa, and the Middle East.
The city is also preparing off-field experiences for fans attending FIFA World Cup 2026 events. Bayfront Park will be home to FIFA Fan Festival Miami—a 23-day event featuring entertainment against downtown’s skyline—intended as a central gathering point for supporters from around the globe.
In addition to football festivities, security measures at Miami International Airport have been enhanced ahead of expected increased international arrivals. CLEAR has expanded its identity platform at MIA by introducing eGates that allow CLEAR+ members to verify their identity quickly and proceed directly to screening without stopping at TSA podiums. This update aims to make airport processing faster and more efficient for travelers during FIFA World Cup 2026.
“Few destinations embody global energy the way Miami does,” added Whitaker. “With seven World Cup matches, visiting fans will not only witness world-class football—they’ll experience the culture, spirit, and joy that make Miami unforgettable.”
Miami regularly hosts major international sporting events such as Formula 1 Crypto.com Grand Prix and NASCAR Championship alongside annual competitions like Capital One Orange Bowl College Football Playoff Quarterfinal.
The GMCVB continues its mission to promote Greater Miami & Miami Beach as premier destinations for leisure tourism and business gatherings.
