Neuro-oncologist Rebekka Hooks, M.D., MSc, has joined Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute. Dr. Hooks will provide care for patients with primary and secondary central nervous system tumors, including gliomas, brain metastases, skull base tumors, and hereditary tumor syndromes such as neurofibromatosis and Von Hippel–Lindau disease. She is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in adult neurology.

Dr. Hooks focuses on supportive care strategies to improve quality of life for her patients. She also works to integrate clinical trial opportunities into patient care and is involved in teaching and research to mentor future physicians. Dr. Hooks is a member of both the American Academy of Neurology and the Society of Neuro-Oncology.

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Hooks to our highly skilled team of cancer care specialists dedicated to providing the highest quality care,” said Leonard Kalman, M.D., executive deputy medical director and chief medical officer at Miami Cancer Institute.

Dr. Hooks completed her master’s degree in medical neurosciences at Charité Universitätsmedizin in Berlin, Germany, followed by a medical degree from Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary, where she graduated cum laude. Her clinical training includes a neurology internship and residency as well as a neuro-oncology fellowship at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

During her training, Dr. Hooks developed a resident wellness program, served as chief resident, published scientific work, presented at academic conferences, and taught didactic sessions.

“I emphasize patient-centered communication, shared decision-making and holistic support for patients and their families,” said Dr. Hooks. “I strive to combine evidence-based treatment with a strong focus on quality of life, recognizing that trust, clarity and compassion are as important as innovation in neuro-oncology.”

She will see patients at Miami Cancer Institute’s main campus located at 8900 North Kendall Drive in Miami.
