Ryder names John J. Diez as successor following CEO Sanchez’s planned retirement

Ryder System, Inc. announced that Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert E. Sanchez will retire on March 31, 2026. The company’s board of directors has approved a succession plan in which John J. Diez, currently President and Chief Operating Officer, will become the new CEO effective the same date. Diez has also been elected to join Ryder’s board of directors.

Sanchez became CEO in January 2013 and was named chairman in May 2013. After his retirement as CEO, he will take on the role of executive chair to support a smooth transition.

We are proud to name John to be Ryder’s next CEO as part of a well-planned succession. John has an exceptional business track record, understands our customers’ needs, and knows the company very well as a result of his more-than-20-year tenure with Ryder.”

Sanchez stated: “Serving Ryder for more than three decades has truly been an extraordinary experience. I’ve had the privilege of working alongside the most talented and dedicated professionals in our industry to deliver for our employees, customers, and shareholders. I’ve worked with John for over two decades and his deep understanding of our business, sound judgment and strategic mindset uniquely positions him to lead the company. I am confident that he is the right leader to drive Ryder’s continued growth.”

Diez was appointed president and chief operating officer on January 1, 2025; previously he served as executive vice president and chief financial officer at Ryder. He also led both fleet management operations as well as dedicated transportation business units during his tenure.
