The State University System of Florida (SUS) is observing National Transfer Student Week by acknowledging the contributions of more than 55,000 transfer students enrolled at its institutions. The system highlights its 2+2 Targeted Pathway program, which allows students to earn an associate degree at a state college and guarantees their admission to a partner university to complete a four-year degree.
“In partnership with the Florida College System, the State University System of Florida is dedicated to upholding our commitment of excellence to all 2+2 transfer students,” said SUS Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs Emily Sikes. “By establishing 2+2 Targeted Pathway programs at our institutions, our System is setting a high standard of excellence for transfer student success.”
Florida law requires public universities to participate in the 2+2 Targeted Pathway, which includes agreements with Florida Colleges to provide their students with guaranteed admission to a state university. The SUS currently maintains nearly 40 partnership pathway agreements with Florida Colleges across its 12 institutions.
Data from the SUS shows that at certain universities—Florida State University, University of South Florida, Florida International University, and Florida A&M University—at least 40% of 2+2 transfer students graduate within two years. Additionally, at FSU, FIU, USF, and Florida Atlantic University, over 70% of these students graduate within three years.
Transfer student programs in the SUS offer resources such as advisors on partner campuses, connections to peers and faculty in their majors, support from peers and transfer coaches, and encouragement for timely completion of both associate and bachelor’s degrees.
