Board-certified hematologist oncologist Thomas Summers, D.O., has joined Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute and will be seeing patients at the Institute’s new location in Key West, Florida. Dr. Summers specializes in diagnosing and treating solid tumors, benign blood disorders, clotting disorders, and lymphomas.
Dr. Summers brings 25 years of experience in hematology oncology to the role. He has previously held staff and leadership positions at Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Tennessee, Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, and Cleveland Clinic Florida.

Dr. Summers earned his medical degree from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He completed a medical internship at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia, followed by two years as a senior medical officer at the Naval Amphibious Base in Norfolk, Virginia, and two years supporting the U.S. Atlantic Fleet Destroyer Squadron as a medical officer. After his military service, he finished an internal medicine residency—serving as chief resident—and a hematology/medical oncology fellowship at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine in partnership with Jefferson Health.
He also has experience as a clinical investigator at the National Cancer Institute and is recognized as a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists. Dr. Summers is active in several professional organizations.
