Todd Nepola, a commercial real estate investor based in Hollywood, Florida, has filed a defamation lawsuit against Bravo, NBC Universal, and Purveyors of Pop—the network and production company behind “The Real Housewives of Miami.” The suit was submitted in Miami federal court on Tuesday.
Nepola alleges that the show’s producers deliberately crafted and promoted a storyline suggesting he was facing financial difficulties. According to the lawsuit, this portrayal is false. Nepola claims his net worth exceeds $100 million and states he has never experienced financial distress.
During the seventh season of the series, which featured drama surrounding the divorce between Todd Nepola and Alexia Nepola, cast member Adriana de Moura commented on camera: “A little bird told me that Todd and Alexia are having some trouble…and they might have to break their lease and find a cheaper place.” The complaint asserts these remarks were part of a broader narrative manufactured by the show’s producers.
The lawsuit also contends that video footage of Nepola from earlier seasons—specifically seasons four and five—was reused without his consent in later episodes. He had agreed to appear in those earlier seasons when he was engaged to Alexia Nepola; their wedding was shown in the season five finale.
Despite his requests to producers about the alleged misrepresentation, Nepola claims his concerns were ignored. During the period when these episodes aired, he reportedly closed over $115 million in real estate transactions across 11 deals. In July, an affiliate of his company Current Capital Group purchased a shopping center in Miami Gardens for $33 million.
According to the complaint, “The defamatory story lines forged by the RHOM producers are completely devoid from reality. Each new broadcast serves to reignite and revalidate the false narrative, reinforcing the public’s belief in its accuracy and renewing the emotional and reputational harm.”
The alleged defamation is said to extend beyond television episodes to include content shared on Bravo’s social media channels as well as reunion shows and other media platforms.
Nepola and his attorney declined comment on the case. Representatives for Bravo, NBC Universal, and Purveyors of Pop did not respond to requests for comment.
