The statistics include information on job creation and destruction, establishment births and deaths, and firm startups and shutdowns. The BDS covers data from 1978 through 2023.
The dataset is available through the BDS website, the Census API, and the BDS Explorer tool. According to the Census Bureau, “The explorer tool provides access to the entire BDS dataset via line charts, bar charts and thematic maps. The application’s intuitive dashboard allows data users to construct tables and charts for comparing and organizing measures of business dynamics.”
