The U.S. Census Bureau has released new data tables that detail the characteristics of the foreign-born population in the United States, based on information from the 2024 Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement (CPS ASEC).
These tables offer a breakdown of social and economic indicators for three groups: first generation (foreign-born individuals), second generation (those with at least one foreign-born parent), and third-and-higher generation (individuals with two U.S. native parents). The data includes employment status, education levels, household income, poverty status, race, age, and sex.
According to the Census Bureau, “The Current Population Survey is one of the nation’s oldest, largest and most well-recognized surveys. In addition to being the primary source of monthly labor force statistics, it is used to collect data for a variety of other studies to keep the nation informed about the economic and social well-being of its people.”
