David MacNeil, the billionaire founder of WeatherTech and a Republican megadonor, sold his waterfront mansion in Fort Lauderdale for $34 million, according to an April 13 report. The sale price represents a significant reduction from its original listing of $50 million in 2024.
The property at 84 Isla Bahia Drive was first reported by the New York Post and has not yet appeared in public records. The identity of the buyer remains unknown. Chad Carroll with Compass handled the listing, while Brett Bass with Bass Realty and Investments represented the buyer.
MacNeil established WeatherTech, a car accessories company, in 1989 and is estimated to have a net worth of $4 billion. Forbes reports that his car collection is valued at $400 million. He has been active in South Florida real estate acquisitions over recent years. In 2024, he purchased a two-acre oceanfront compound in Manalapan for $38.5 million and followed up with an adjacent estate for $55.5 million in 2025. Most recently, he acquired another oceanfront mansion for $68.3 million this February, bringing his total investment in that area to over $162 million.
MacNeil has also contributed more than $3 million to support former President Donald Trump since 2016, including substantial donations during Trump’s inauguration and the most recent election cycle as reported by Forbes. In January, Trump nominated MacNeil as chair of the Federal Trade Commission; his confirmation is pending.
The Fort Lauderdale property was purchased by MacNeil for $5.5 million in 2013 before he built an approximately 11,700-square-foot mansion on it seven years later featuring five bedrooms and eight bathrooms along with extensive waterfront access.
This transaction follows other high-value deals amid a slowdown in Fort Lauderdale’s luxury market post-pandemic boom—often requiring sellers to lower prices to complete sales.
